Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Say cheese! This warm sandwich can be dressed up by adding your favorite veggies and/or deli meat. Pair it with some tomato soup and call it dinner.


  • 2 slices of crusty white bread, such as Noe Valley Bakery sour wheat levain or SF sour batard
  • Veggies! Whatever you have will do (1/2 oz- – 1 oz each). We like to add sautéed mushrooms, greens, sliced tomatoes or sliced shallots
  • 1 oz shredded cheddar, 1 oz shredded pecorino
  • 2 oz ham
  • Pinch of dried thyme or oregano
  • Dijon mustard
  • 3 ounces softened butter


Spread butter on one slice of bread and place into a hot pan. Top with cheese and your toppings. Place the other slice of buttered bread on top. Cook until brown, then carefully flip and cook the other side.
